NaNoWriMo Rebel

I’m a rebel. No doubt about it. Definitely a rebel. Thank you to Pax for the awesome NaNo Rebel stamp. It was nice of Pax to take the time to make this cool little graphic.

What is a NaNo Rebel? Well, according to the Rebel forum we are people who don’t quite conform to the standard rules of NaNoWriMo. They don’t call it cheating, it isn’t. There are those of us that just don’t fit the definition of what the rules are – such as those of us who write non-fiction, e-books self helps or finish off an old NaNo project in the current NaNo competition (like me). I started in 2009 and life just took me over, being a mom and wife with a full plate I couldn’t even get past the first week of NaNoWriMo.

This bothered me, an unfinished project. I’m never one to leave something..unfinished. I can’t, I’m a perfectionist that way. I can’t help it and I need to finish what I started two years ago. NaNoWriMo is for everyone and the environment of the competition is what some of us more established authors need to kick us in the pants or push us over the edge to finish a current project.

Some of us rebels don’t validate, some of us do. It’s up to the individual according to the NaNo Rebel forum and team. I plan on validating because I plan on writing more than 50,000 words if I can manage it. So, are you a NaNo Rebel?

Jung Typology Test

Have you ever heard of the Jung Typology Test? It’s a psychological based personality type test that was developed to give people and professionals insight into how a person behaves and interacts with others and their environment. I find that my INFP personality is certainly a pretty accurate description of me. My husband is ISTJ.

From what I understand the INFP personality is a rare personality combination. Not too many of us out there but enough of us to have a topic and forum or two of our own. This Jung test has been an interesting eye opener in how both I and my husband act and react to each other, others and our environment. His strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa. Really puts a whole new meaning to the definition of two halves make a whole in our case.

These Chains

I am currently working on a novel called These Chains (tentative title).

These Chains is the story of a young man recounting his troubled childhood and the abusive nature of a spiteful step father. The story touches on ethnic issues, child abuse and the repercussions that enfold. From his childhood to his young adult addictions as an alcoholic and drug addict to suicide attempts and the recovery afterward the story takes a journey into the seedy underbelly of the ripple effect of child abuse and racism from the first person point of view.

You can read what has been written on my profile. So far it seems to be that it is received well enough. You can access the story so far from here : These Chains

Computer Woes

Had a bit of a scare the other day. For the first time in my computer’s very short and high end existence it had a cpu overheat warning. It’s been hot, sticky and humid the last couple of days and a lot of dusty kick up clogged my heat sync causing the warning to pop up with a reset on the system.

Looks like I’ll be doing some maintenance in the next couple of days with a clean out, thermal paste and a new heat sync. Thankfully, all my work is backed up on a DVD-R and I have a full hard disk back up on a 10 disk DVD-R set for just in case moments like the other day. Although, the hard drive rarely is affected by a CPU crash it is plausible for the CPU to take out the rest of the system when it goes fubar.

I guess you can call this post a friendly reminder to always back your stuff up frequently so you can avoid the heart attack of surprise crashes that most writers in this digital world would liken to an explosion of the world itself and the end of worlds as we know it.

Once something is written it’s never written the same way again, so back that up and keep on plugging happily away.

The Houses of The Immortal Chronicles

the warrior daemons who were contracted out for clean up jobs and militia.
the scribes of the dark community, like the mortal monks who had transcribed many scrolls, the Laganus were much the same.
the daemons that controlled the brute forces of Lycans, the werewolf tamers. They used the Lycans to do heavy and dirty jobs that no Immortal wished to lay pale hands upon. The Lycans had been enslaved to the Lyca house for many centuries and thus at the disposal of the Dark King when ever he so desired them to be.
boasting a broad and strong household of witches and mages. They hailed of the dark arts, teaching the rest of the dark community of the blood rituals and blood magics that each Dark King had taught them before hand. They were not only magicians but teachers as well.
the dark communities assassin household who protected all the other houses of the Immortals from enemies and other creatures.
The aristocratic household of the dark communities, the politicians of the daemon vampire world. They were responsible for the alliances and regulations of the dark communities as well as upholding the dark laws which were called the Dark Veil Policies.

Does kind of sound like a twist on Blade and Vampire: The Masquerade doesn’t it. It was an inspiration of sorts but not the source of it. It does remind me of the Underworld series as well. Especially the Lyca. The Dark Veil comes from my stint as a lifestyler in the worlds of the “real vampire” trenches in college.

It was an interesting experience to say the least. It wasn’t quite gothic and was at the same time. Yes, this author has partook of the blood letting experience (don’t worry, very safe ways of doing so). The intricate society of real vampires is detailed and long so I won’t bore you with the concept of it except to provide you with a long standing member group (that I’ve been a part of in the past) that you can find information on this topic matter within. That group (and no it is not a cult or church at all) is the Vampire Church run by Damien and a group of wonderful people from all walks of life. It was a defining moment in my life that shaped and charged my personality and writing style to say the least.

Without further words, the link :

There the Dark Veil can be found but the gist of this set of rules is harm no one just as it would be for a pagan or wiccan or for better words any person of any religion or culture. Harm no one. Do as ye will and harm no one.

Vampires and it’s lore have been a strong influence over my life since I could remember. As a writer and an individual person. It has enslaved me with its passions, upsets, and dark fantasy from the very first time I read Salem’s Lot to the Vampire Chronicles of Anne Rice popularity. I’ve day dreamed on what it would be like to wander this world undead and unchanging. I would think that it would be very lonely and very emotionally distraught to watch the world around us change and yet remain unchanged ourselves. I would also liken this to going slowly insane as time passed along. Perhaps my Immortal Chronicles worlds and characters (such as the minions that infest minds both mortal and immortal) portray this same thought process however it may present, present it shall.

Immortal Chronicles – The Time Stealer

I’ve come to realize that my Immortal Chronicles (that I’ve begun to work with again) is going to be a lot more of a bite than I anticipated on taking. It’s a little overwhelming but I think my biggest problem here is my over indulgence of descriptive writing. I have a common with my favorite author Stephen King.

I tend to take 3 or 4 pages to describe and set up a scene when really all it needs is basic description set up. I am a slave of emotional spice in a scene whether it be for a nuance between characters of a major plot set up. I take too long and I’m starting to see that now. It also hurts very much as I hit the delete key to reduce my descriptive indulgences with my work.

I feel like I’m killing my scenes and characters, I need the inner monologue of their thoughts and feelings but do my readers need it? It’s a painful process of the eureka kind, one that has both slowed me down in writing and caused a speeding up as well. Leaving me in the lurch and stuck in limbo. A limbo where I must determine what is and is not necessary and may never know what I’ve taken out that might have been better left in there.

My inner editor is screaming at me as the keys on my keyboard zip by under my fingers. The whir and tak tak tak of the keyboard in the deafening silence of my office screams louder than a jet engine while it pours mother natures furry just outside my window. What is a writer to do I wonder as I procrastinate, bucking against the deadening of my work by my bitchy inner editor as she screams for justice and to be vindicated with release into my writer’s worlds to wreak her own hellish havoc on my words blinking by on the screen in front of me.

Do I release her prematurely or do I fight against her and lock in the cell at the back of my mind to wait it out until later in the game of writing – editing – writing – editing…and so on I go, marching word by word forward into the unknown and overly descriptive bowels of my writer mind…avoiding the scary door that says :

Inner Editor – Enter At Own Risk
(May be risk of finger loss due to biting editor\writer type persons).
