NaNoWriMo Rebel

I’m a rebel. No doubt about it. Definitely a rebel. Thank you to Pax for the awesome NaNo Rebel stamp. It was nice of Pax to take the time to make this cool little graphic.

What is a NaNo Rebel? Well, according to the Rebel forum we are people who don’t quite conform to the standard rules of NaNoWriMo. They don’t call it cheating, it isn’t. There are those of us that just don’t fit the definition of what the rules are – such as those of us who write non-fiction, e-books self helps or finish off an old NaNo project in the current NaNo competition (like me). I started in 2009 and life just took me over, being a mom and wife with a full plate I couldn’t even get past the first week of NaNoWriMo.

This bothered me, an unfinished project. I’m never one to leave something..unfinished. I can’t, I’m a perfectionist that way. I can’t help it and I need to finish what I started two years ago. NaNoWriMo is for everyone and the environment of the competition is what some of us more established authors need to kick us in the pants or push us over the edge to finish a current project.

Some of us rebels don’t validate, some of us do. It’s up to the individual according to the NaNo Rebel forum and team. I plan on validating because I plan on writing more than 50,000 words if I can manage it. So, are you a NaNo Rebel?

Writing Dot Com

Want a sneak peek at “The Chains” in the rough draft. Visit my profile at writing.com here to see the first few chapters of my new writing project.

Writing.com is a great resource for writers and aspiring writers to gain some constructive reviews and critiques of their work. The community there is very helpful and very honest. I’ve gotten some great ideas and reviews from the community writers at Writing.com thus far.

Some great groups there too. Everything from Sci Fi, fan fiction and horror genre groups to participate in. Great contests for community gift points and awesome people with generosity I haven’t seen in a long time.

Quick reminder: November is NaNoWriMo – don’t forget to join up and participate in the month long novel writing frenzy for a great cause!

Writing As A Career

It’s no easy task making writing a career choice. The publishing world is a difficult one to break into but not an impossible one. Now a days there are many different ways to publish your work. From content article writing to e publishing and self publishing venues. It’s a rather large industry in this day and age, so many options to be had. Being passionate about your work is the key to success. Writing every day is also key to success. It doesn’t matter what you write only that you practice your skills every day. It’s that old adage “use it or lose it”.

Here are a few tools for you writers out there:

Writer.com – portfolio and email for free. You have a whole network and community of fellow writers to help you with critiques and guidance.
NaNoWriMo – Take the challenge, it’s free, it’s fun and it’s great writing practice.
Storymind.com – Freebie writing courses, valuable on an authors budget. Especially a budding and new author.
Poynter’s News University – Not all the courses are free but the ones that are not are pretty nominal fees. Almost all the courses are webinar or self propelled courses. They are a very good source of writing practices and standards.
Problogger.net – Great source of freelance blogging gigs and jobs.

NaNoWriMo Starts Sunday

Well, NaNoWriMo is now upon us in full force. I’ve got my idea, I’ve got my title. I switched over to my genre from a YA idea I had because I had a dream about a story that wanted out of my head. I’ve done that before, dreamed the entire contents of a book in my sleep. The story is screaming out and stopping all work on current WIP’s.

It wants out like a rat in a bucket on fire. What better way to let it out than with NaNoWriMo? I’ll be doing the book cover eventually in spare time, I need a visual representation of the book (I’m oddly backwards that way).

Good Luck to all my NaNoWriMo buddies!
