Had a bit of a scare the other day. For the first time in my computer’s very short and high end existence it had a cpu overheat warning. It’s been hot, sticky and humid the last couple of days and a lot of dusty kick up clogged my heat sync causing the warning to pop up with a reset on the system.
Looks like I’ll be doing some maintenance in the next couple of days with a clean out, thermal paste and a new heat sync. Thankfully, all my work is backed up on a DVD-R and I have a full hard disk back up on a 10 disk DVD-R set for just in case moments like the other day. Although, the hard drive rarely is affected by a CPU crash it is plausible for the CPU to take out the rest of the system when it goes fubar.
I guess you can call this post a friendly reminder to always back your stuff up frequently so you can avoid the heart attack of surprise crashes that most writers in this digital world would liken to an explosion of the world itself and the end of worlds as we know it.
Once something is written it’s never written the same way again, so back that up and keep on plugging happily away.
